And Stone Softens

This body of work was created over lockdown, as I gazed out from my studio overlooking the Cumbrian Fells. The large ‘cement’ pieces are an attempt to understand those landscapes in terms of process and material, how sediment is laid down, how it hardens and then erodes, edges and escarpments are left, the subtlety of colour changing with each ‘peeling’. The residue of this process is then used to make paper collages.

And as always drawings serve to make sense of it all.
